He (the suncat) is pretty elegant and very well put together unlike some prior martyrs, acting more like a pretty monarch rather than a vessel. He treats being Her™ as his right, his obligation, rather than a blessing and a sacrifice. He isn't afraid to die, per se, just doesn't want to lose his fame and power over everyone else. He's arrogant and sparing of his blessings, believing it will prolong his life span.

She (Guard) isn't exactly fond of basically anyone, including her self-absorbed Suncat to "protect." He insists he doesn't even need her, and she can't help but agree. It's taking far too long for Her Sun to set.
